Why is it so challenging for us to be natural? I was wondering what it means to be natural and came to being in accordance with nature, being simple, spontaneous, true. Being in accordance with nature means to realize that we are part of a whole and to accept whatever task is given to us. Not only to accept our uniqueness but to trust that everything is perfect as it is. It means to be aware that there is no separation between the parts and that the whole can only evolve if all move together. It means to trust that everything is in its right place and there is no good or bad, no better or worse. It means to transcend our ego and to seek unity by shifting the attention from our personal story to see beyond. Taking nature as example, the centipede doesn’t want to be a lion and the lion doesn’t want to be a palm tree. The fire does not see the water as an enemy and heaven and earth do not compete. When autumn comes, the trees do not want to retain and stock the leafs. To be natural is not an easy task… I worked for many years in very complex transactions, projects involving sometimes more than 20 jurisdictions, piles of complex contracts, highly sophisticated systems…. but the most challenging job for me today is to understand simple things like just be. I feel that, conditioned by distorted values and egoism, we usually seek what we are not, we think that we need what we don’t have, we are in a constant state of unease searching for something that fulfills the hole inside. We create a story about ourselves, cling to it and cultivate it like a small pup. The pup grows and needs more food (illusions), attention and stakes to sustain it. The lie is very complex and has many small escape routs, hidden traps and fragile pillars and it takes huge effort to sustain it. Truth is simple and effortless. As a friend quoted Einstein these days “As simple as possible, but not simpler”.
