We lack nothing

Updated: Jun 25, 2021

When we realize that there is a power beyond things, we suddenly feel that nothing lacks. Suffering comes from identifying ourselves with things, life situation… As all things are impermanent, including our own body, we suffer because we cling to them as if we would disappear when they degenerate and are gone. Take very simple examples like a job, a relationship, a body, a house. They all come and go and are transitory. Scientists concluded that even the sun will die and the universe will return to its original source. We are constantly faced with impermanence and remembered of this basic law. Why? Maybe to encourage us to see what is beyond transiency. If we open ourselves to see beyond things, we may notice that there is a force that is always present, unchanging. We cannot touch it, see it, smell it, explain it. But we can fell it. Experiences like observing the power behind the seed that sprouts and opens up to a flower or giving birth to another human being put us in a state of wonder. Where does this force come from? We do not know but it seems to give rise to all things and unifies all in one. The challenging part is that, to be able to feel and realize this force, we must drop our own identification with things. This does not mean renouncing or denying things, but being aware that we are not them. Nothing lacks and all that come and go is just a scenario where life takes place. When we are connected to what is eternal, unchanging, we do not fear.

“The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal name. The nameless is the beginning of heaven and earth. The named is the mother of ten thousand things. Ever desireless, one can see the mystery. Ever desiring, one can see the manifestations. These two spring from the same source but differ in name; This appears as darkness. Darkness within darkness. The gate to all mystery.” Tao Te Ching, Lao Tsu
